Give the AI a role and rules with instructions in BrainBox
How to give a BrainBox chat instructions so the AI always answers with the role, format and rules you need.
Lesson 12 of 21 · 1:13
What it covers
With instructions you tell the AI how to work in a chat: what role it plays, what format to answer in and what rules to follow. Here you write instructions, save them and see how they change the answer: the AI says what an amendment changed and cites both documents.
Frequently asked questions
›Where do I set instructions in BrainBox?
In the chat, with the plus button and then Instructions. They are saved in that chat and you'll see the notice Custom instructions active.
›Do instructions apply to the whole Box?
No. They are saved in the chat where you write them. A new chat starts without instructions.
›What makes a good instruction?
Three parts: the role (who the AI is), the format (how to answer) and the rules (what to do in special cases).
Transcript
0:00The request
Laura wants the AI to always answer the same way: with exact figures, and flagging anything that changed. That's what instructions are for.
0:10Role, format and rules
A good instruction has three parts. The role: who the AI is in this chat. The format: how you want the answer. And the rules: what to do in special cases, like an amendment that changes the contract.
0:26Write and test
With the plus button, you choose Instructions. You write the role, the format and the rules, save them, and they apply to this whole chat. Now ask: how many days do we have to pay Ferrolumina, and has that term changed? Look: it used to be thirty days, and the amendment changed it to forty-five. And it cites both documents, just as you asked.
0:50Recap
To recap: instructions live in each chat, write the role, the format and the rules, and the AI follows them in every answer of that chat. You set the rules, because AI doesn't replace you, it empowers you.
